Type of fire extinguishers

Class D extinguishers have a star symbol and yellow color. It’s perfect for alloys and combustible metals.

Class K is used for fats and cooking oils. These extinguisher has a hexagon symbol and black color. It has a frying pan on the label.

The fire extinguishers should always be present in an accessible location. A clear path should be maintained around the fire extinguishers and every one in the building should know ahow to use it. A regular maintenance needs to be done to ensure that they are in good working condition and there are no components damaged.

Operation

It is not difficult to operate the fire extinguisher. The extinguishers come with a direction for use. The majority of people use the acronym P.A.S.S. It means:

P: P stands for pull. Pull the safety pin from the handle

A: Aim the hose at the base of the fire

S: Squeeze the trigger and continually

S: Sweep the hose from side to side until the fire is completely out
